International Newsletter September 2023
We can’t exaggerate how strongly the Holy Spirit moved during the 2023 Steiger Missions School! We had 150 students and volunteers from 32 different countries - the most countries EVER represented - all coming together to seek God with a desperate heart. Over the course of 7 weeks, we saw broken hearts mended, people healed almost daily, and decisions for Jesus every week on the streets of Dresden.
“During our last outreach I was challenged to do the proclamation,” shared Maria from Norway. “It was very scary but a very good stretch for me. I knew that God would walk with me in it and it would be a learning experience for me.”
Like many in the school, Maria started out terrified of sharing her faith on the street. “It’s still scary, but I know that God is in it and He loves that we want to be a part of His work,” she said. “To do it together with God, knowing that it is not about us, but just about being willing and obedient to meet His children and share His love has been such an amazing experience.”
In addition to planning weekly creative evangelism projects in the Dresden city center, the group spent a catalytic week in Amsterdam, where they boldly and relevantly brought the Gospel to the streets of one of the world’s most secular cities.
SMS student, Oscar, gives a bold Gospel proclamation on the streets of Amsterdam.
Oscar, from Sweden, felt challenged in his “seeking God” time at the school to step out of his comfort zone of leading worship into new ways of sharing the Gospel. He took part in one of the theatrical performances the students put together in Amsterdam, and gave a clear Gospel presentation at the end.
“The SMS helped me grow and change,” he shared. “I’ve realized that I should not limit God or myself, because we’re serving the Almighty God who can do anything. It’s been an amazing experience and I know that it’s changed my life forever!”
Powerful prayer and worship is one of the defining elements of the SMS.
God was so faithful in this school to give the students new revelations of His love for them and for the lost. Ukrainian student Ariel shared her experience of this revelation of Christ’s love. “In revealing this to me, He’s brought me through a healing process, and at the same time taught me to lean on Him fully,” she said.
“He uprooted pride and other things in me that I didn’t even know I struggled with but at the same time brought me this security and confidence in Him. It’s all been a result of experiencing His love and who He is more deeply than ever before. I’m so excited to bring that back to my city, back to my friends, and back to my country!”
Please join us in praying that God would help our students do just that!
