This summer, 60 believers from 5 different countries set off on Steiger’s Camino de Santiago Impact Trip. Unsure of what each day would bring, they relied on God not only to bring them to spiritually open people, but also to provide inroads to Gospel conversations.
A few nights into the journey, another team member introduced Timi, a hiker from Romania, to Steiger missionary, Carolina, from Colombia. Timi shared that although she did believe in God, she didn’t think Jesus was Him. She allowed Carolina to pray for her and ask God to reveal more about who Jesus really is.
The next morning before saying goodbye, Carolina gave her a New Testament Bible so she could look into Jesus for herself. She started reading it before the team even left for the day!
Team members had spiritual conversations with fellow hikers even as they walked.
On the final day of hiking, the entire team met in front of the cathedral at Santiago De Compostela. Carolina and a handful of others from the team were early, and waited as crowds of people swirled around them.
All of a sudden, Timi walked up behind Carolina! “We hadn’t agreed to meet or anything, she was just there, in the middle of thousands of people,” Carolina recalls.
“I was thinking about you, Carolina,” Timi said. “After that day we met, I was in a small chapel. I sat to pray and told God, ‘I want to know you more. I want to know Jesus.’ Right then, a man came up to me and offered to pray with me, so we prayed. Guess what his name was. It was Jesus! Can you believe that?”
The team walked 81 miles over 7 days to reach the Santiago De Compostela Cathedral.
They laughed and Carolina said, “Yes! God is so mighty and powerful and He hears exactly what you are asking Him!” She asked Timi if she’d like to pray together. “Yes! I now believe Jesus is God,” she said, “And I want to follow Him.”
“It was so beautiful,” Carolina remembers. “We were so happy and excited and I encouraged her to keep praying, keep reading the Bible, and find a community. We are still in touch now. It was such a beautiful gift for God to let this happen before the trip was over.”

Timi is only one of the many people our team encountered on the Camino de Santiago. Even if she was the only one, she would have been worth it. As it was, our team shared the Gospel with 400 people along the trail. Many of them are now at a spiritual crossroads. Please pray that God would meet each of them wherever they are on their spiritual journey and bring them into relationship with Him.
