Definition: Steiger
- noun
1. Dutch word meaning: "pier"

Refers to the location of the barge where David & Jodi Pierce started a bible study which eventually grew into a church reaching the punks and the anarchists in Amsterdam in the early 1980s.

Steiger's story begins in 1983 in Amsterdam at the height of the European punk rock movement. There David and Jodi Pierce started a Bible study on a barge (called Steiger 14) behind the Central Train Station reaching the punks and the anarchists.

It was then that David started a band called "No Longer Music" (NLM) as a tool to communicate the Gospel of Jesus to these young people who would never step foot into a church.

NLM has since taken the message of Jesus to some of "the darkest corners of society", including closed Islamic countries, terrorist clubs, squatter villages, anarchy festivals, brothels, junkie joints, punk & goth music festivals, Satanist clubs and New Age gatherings.

For example, NLM did a 32-concert "Moscow to Mongolia" tour in 1991, where it had the opportunity to be the first Western band to play in Uzbekistan and Mongolia. The tour resulted in 2,000 responses to the Gospel. Bible studies were begun in numerous cities by NLM's church planting partners who remained in Russia after the tour to disciple those who made a commitment at the concerts. These Bible studies have developed into numerous missions-minded churches, reaching out to the lost in their cities and the surrounding areas.

Over the years, NLM has acted as a pioneer by going into these previously unreached or difficult to reach places and served as a catalyst for the creation of new ministries, churches and a wave of people passionate about bringing the love of Jesus to the darkest corners of society.

Since then, NLM's ministry efforts have grown into a global, interconnected missions organization called "Steiger International" called to reach the Global Youth Culture for Jesus.

For more information, we highly recommend reading David Pierce's autobiography, "Rock Priest", or Jodi Pierce's "Something Broken; Something Extraordinary", which describe how Steiger came into existence.
