Back to Mongolia

In 1991 I went on tour in Mongolia with No Longer Music. We were the first western rock band to tour Mongolia, so all of our concerts were packed out. Sheika was only 16 at the time and hid behind a curtain on the stage at one of our concerts because he didn’t have a ticket to get in.

After the concert, I preached and invited people to come forward and give their lives to Jesus. Sheika was one of those who responded, and since that day his life has been totally transformed.

A few days ago, Jodi and I met with Sheika and his wife in Minneapolis! 30 years after Sheika snuck into the No Longer Music concert, he and his wife are leading a church planting ministry in Mongolia called Witness Mongolia. It was SO encouraging to see the fruit that came from our No Longer Music tour in Mongolia over 30 years ago!

Sheika told us that this reunion was something he had been praying for for years and that I needed to come back to Mongolia. It seemed like a crazy idea to me, but after a time of prayer with Jodi and my sons we all felt like God does want me to return to Mongolia again.

So with God's help, I plan on traveling to Mongolia at the end of March. I will be giving seminars for church leaders and artists and investigating the possibility of starting a Steiger City Team in Ulaanbaatar. It is always such a faith challenge to travel now with the pandemic and all the uncertainties of border crossings, but one thing Jodi and I have seen these last two years is that God makes a way when he calls you.
