“Hi, I want to thank you that I could hear you speak. The lectures you gave for women really moved me and the No Longer Music concert touched the deepest parts of my heart. I could never believe that God could love me – a sinner. I could not understand Jesus’ sacrifice. I was raped when I was 11 years old and then sexually abused for three years...

July 2008 Newsletter

She was from a hard core Muslim country in Africa where if you dare to follow Jesus it can cost you your life. She came from a prominent family and was on vacation in Turkey when someone invited her to our evangelistic concert 11 months ago in the ancient city of Antioch. After the concert one of the girls from our team asked her what she thought and if she understood the message.

May 2008 Newsletter

Nine months ago God allowed us to preach the message of the Cross on the streets of Muslim villages and towns where Jesus had not been publicly proclaimed for a thousand years. Despite threats and opposition, scores and scores of people responded to Jesus.

April 2008 Newsletter

It was two days before Easter, on Good Friday, and Greg (a New Zealand student in our Steiger Missions & Leadership school) hung on a cross on a lamp post. He was on a busy road near the beach on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand. He wanted to show, in a dramatic way, how Jesus died on the cross.

Adrian was in solitary confinement in a prison in New Zealand when someone gave him my book "Rock Priest". He told me it was the first book he ever read and that God used it to change his life. He was a heroin addict for 10 years and a part of a notorious gang. But, Jesus got a hold of him in that prison cell and his life hasn't been the same ever since.

Muslims in the area would throw rocks at the windows of the church so we had to keep the shutters closed while we prayed.

you could pick up your choice of heroin, meth, or weed, and on the inside it was a café and theatre. To say anything about God was forbidden.

Sacrifice of Isaac
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
We’ve been following Abraham for a while now. Things haven’t always been pretty. It’s been a rough journey. But at this point, it seems like life is starting to look good. The promised child has arrived, his house and his relationships are in order… things are looking good. And then this happens. God tells him to kill his son.

Isaac's Birth
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
So, twenty-five years of waiting for God’s promise to be fulfilled ends with eight verses.  That’s it.  Eight verses to tell that Isaac has finally been born.  It seems kind of understated, doesn’t it?  The main point is, of course, that God keeps his promises.  And perhaps that was so obvious to the writer at this point that it seemed like a given, and it didn’t require more than a few sentences.

Is God Good?
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
After Abraham has entertained these three visitors, they are leaving to head to Sodom, and Abraham is walking along with them saying goodbye. At this point, God begins pondering aloud whether he should tell Abraham that he is about to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham hears God talking and gets a bit concerned, because his nephew, Lot, along with his wife and daughters, live in Sodom.

Is Anything too Difficult for God?
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
I have been thinking recently about how the assumptions we have about life and reality affect the way we live. And I wonder if part of the reason Christians so often don’t seem different from other people is that we have the same assumptions about reality. I want to use this story to discuss one of the main things that I think is vital for us to hold as basic assumption about reality.

Building an Alter
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
I'm a big fan of the New Year.  Every New Year, I feel like we get a do over.  You know?  Didn’t do so well on such-and-such last year?  Do over!  We get to start again.  And as we do that, I wanted to take the time to think through some things that I believe are really essential in making sure we grow closer to God this year.

God's Covenant with Abraham
By Mark Johnson of Steiger Minneapolis
Over the past few months, we’ve looked at Abraham’s journey of faith, during which he has received a number of promises from God.  He has received promises over the past 24 years at this point.  And here again, God not only reaffirms the promise, but expands it.

Something Broken, Something Extraordinary
(An excerpt from Jodi's book)
By Jodi Pierce

I was walking down our street in Amsterdam to pick up some groceries when I noticed a group gathered around the canal. The grocery store was on the edge of the Red Light District, so it always made for an interesting trip because of the people I would meet on the way. I neared the group, trying to figure out what had attracted them. Suddenly I saw it. There was a dead body in the canal...

The Handwriting is on the Wall

Just the other night I met with a 26 year old fellow, Justin. A big, good looking guy met me and proceeded to share his anger and frustration about his life and his girlfriend and his inability to give up a lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, abuse and anger. He was an alcoholic, used ecstasy, coke, weed and a few other substances and he shared about how stuck he was in life and in relationships and how bad his life was.
